Camp Clearing

Willowstar padded into an ivy filled clearing. Rock faces jutted out towards the clearing like cliffs, and a mixture of moss and ivy grew to cover them almost completely.

Flashfire's whiskers twitched and the eccentric cat caught his prey, A quite strikingly beautiful butterfly. "Good catch. It's a good thing no kits saw it before you did, Sunspotpelt. It wouldn't be so pretty anymore." He chuckled, thinking about how proficient Sunspotpelt must be as far as catching other flying things such as birds, though he didn't mind the cat's healthy fascination with insects. "Don't feel badly. You didn't hurt anyone" Flashfire dipped his head.

Willowstar flicked the tip of her tail. "It's okay Sunspotpelt. Now I see why that is a rare butterfly. A Queen Butterfly you called it? It is beautiful." She looked at him with a calm and curious gaze. Willowstar wasn't the kind of leader to yell or condemn her Clan-mates, she believed in being supportive, though she could be stern. She held a genuine interest in Sunspotpelt's fascination though, and was never stern when he found something he wanted to investigate. The few exceptions being his fascination as an alternative to catching prey.

Sunny smiled a bit, nodding.

"Thanks... and please, call me Sunny." He smiled at Flashfire and Willowstar. He then looked down to his specimen, smiling. It was a beautiful Queen Butterfly. He then let out a sigh, and unwrapped it, letting her fly away.

"... It didn't feel right. She deserved freedom. All creatures do... fly high, my beautiful Queen Butterfly." He then turned his attention to the other two cats, smiling.

"So, what exactly are you two... er... three up to?"

Willowstar twitched her whiskers and smiled kindly back. "Kind words, Sunny." She flicked her ears and looked to Flashfire, and then at Ghostpaw. "Ghostpaw jut received her apprentice ceremony. I have been named her mentor."

"Cool! I... uh... don't have anyone to mentor, but you knew that." He smiled kinda sheepishly, unsure what to exactly say here. You see, when it comes to kits and small cats, he's as clueless and helpless as a spider in a puddle. Of course, he kept these thoughts to himself. He was unappealing enough to the female cats WITHOUT that little bit of information being known, and he didn't want to hurt the almost-dead chance now.

"So... what are you... umm... mentoring? Yeah, what are you mentoring her about?" He was genuinely curious about this as well. Never having been raised around cats, Sunny didn't quite understand their ways.

Willowstar sat down and curled her tail around her paws to get comfortable. She had nothing else to do, and loved conversing with her Clan-mates, so she decided to settle in place. "I have not mentored her just yet, but soon enough I will be showing her the territory, teaching her how to collect moss, and how to clean out Den's properly. Of course, the last couple of things Ghostpaw already knows. She joined us as apprentice, I decided on her mentor later, but she practiced apprentice duties during the wait. After a moon or two of training, I will teach her how to hunt and how to fight."

(SUNNNYYYY You should get on the chatbox) Flashfire nodded and twitched his whiskers "I believe you'd be a great mentor Sunny. You are very knowledgable in ways many other cats aren't, and knowledge is a powerful thing in the right paws."

"Yeah... not really. My information is only good in specific cases in regarding the way you cats operate. Me, however... well, you all know how often I use it. But, no, I doubt I could mentor... ever." He was being completely honest right now. He knew that his knowledge was not as practical as Flashfire had stated. He turned back to Willowstar. Even to this day, he still felt a small pang of fear whenever he looked into her eyes, even when just speaking.

"As for your mentorship, I wish you the best of luck. My way of hunting only works for me, really, but I'd be more than happy to show Ghostpaw, should you want me to... I mean, only if you want..." He kinda-smiled, unsure of what else to do.

"I think you'd make a great mentor Sunny!" ghostpaw finally found a moment to speak without interupting anyone.
"And the way you caught that queen butterfly it would be perfect for catching birds! If it's ok with Willowstar will you teach me how to do it?" Ghostpaw was in awe of Sunny's skill and grace, and she wanted to be able to be the same.

Flashfire purred at the Ghostpaw's excitement to learn and suddenly wished he had an apprentice to show what he knew and help forge into a great warrior. "I wouldn't mind taking some pointers from you either, Sunny. I'm fast but when it comes to birds in flight, I'm not that great at catching them."

Willowstar purred lightly, glad at all of the converation. "Sunny, if you would like you are welcome to accompany Ghostpaw and I to her lessons. If you want to experience how we train our apprentices and what the apprentices learn, that is the best way to do it. Of course, if you want to teach her anything you may do that as well. The more mentors the better."

Sunny blushed a bit, then smiled.

"Ah, but birds are not butterflies... and I'm... well... terrified of some of them. I've seen what they do to spiders and insects... it's kept me up many nights in fear." He was being completely honest here.

"Oh. That is true... Hrm" Flashfire twitched his tail as he thought. "I'm sure something could be worked out, despite your distaste for birds..." Flashfire nodded and looked towards Willowstar for input.

Willowstar flickered her ears. "Well, we can't have you chasing birds if you have a fear of them can we? Perhaps... You would be more comfortable in a medical position." She watched Sunspotpelt calmly, considering.

Sunny simply shrugged as best as a cat could, and turned his attention to Willowstar, smiling a bit.

"Thank you very much, Willowstar. I'll take you up on that offer, actually... seeing as I don't have much else to do." He hadn't realized what he had just been offered, but seeing as he just kinda used his knowledge for that much of a purpose anyway, he was interested to see what she had in mind.

"Brilliant idea Willowstar, Sunny would make an amazing Medicine Cat!" Flashfire purred.

"Wait... medicine cat? But... I... eh... wah..." Sunny's eyes quite literally went wide, he was utterly shocked that they'd even offer that to him. He wasn't even a full-blood clan member, AND he didn't have the qualities Medicine Cats generally had. He didn't even believe in StarClan.

Willowstar watched him with a level gaze. "Before you accept Sunspotpelt, I have to inform you of what this position entails. You will likely deal with death and sickness on an almost daily basis. Being a medicine cat, one must retain a vast amount of knowledge of the medicinal arts and be able to apply herbs and healing methods to sick cats. The medicine cat may not have a mate or kits. That rule is strictly enforced." The gray she-cat wanted to see his reaction to her frank explanation. If he could not grasp the responsibility now, he would never be able to handle it.

(Whoo, yay replying really fast)

"You have quite the fascination with insects. You have helped us before by use of your knowledge in spider bites. You could save lives with your knowledge. One with your attention to interests could easily learn about herbs, we need only to test your interested in herbs."

"Hmm... considering I'd be losing nothing... only gaining... and since no one will EVER want to be my mate... and I'm not really attached to any cat emotionally... and death never really bothered me... Yeah, I'm in." He smiled widely. He would finally get to do something at least pseudo-important for the clan.

Sunny seemed to be a good fit for the position, he would just need to become familiarized with important herbs needed for treating sick cats. Flashfire grinned and looked toward Willowstar. Would they have a new and much needed Medicine Cat?

Willowstar looked at Sunspotpelt with a relaxed gaze. "It's settled then. IvyClan will soon be accepting it's new Medicine cat."

(Ghostyyyy, hey XD Where are ya?)

Sunny smiled widely.

"Awesome! So... how does this whole "accepting" thing actually work?"

Willowstar stood and flicked her tail. "I will announce this decision to the Clan. If they do not accept you at first, you will have to try hard to prove yourself. That would be the case with any other cat, but you have proven yourself already. I will give you a ceremony very soon. Be prepared."

She twitched her ears and turned back to Sunspotpelt. "After I announce this to the Clan, I will take you to our place of worship. There you will sleep, and StarClan will come down into your dreams, and accept you. That is how it should work, medicine cats are not typically named this way." (Am I failing epically right now? XD)
